My Grandad will be pleased that I have finally got an interest in something our politicians have to say....................
Ok so the Airlines are not so pleased, but with the amount of visitors we get a year this should help our economy- I do hope this goes ahead no matter who is in power.
Labour have hinted that they would impose a charge on visitors from countries that are not required to obtain a visa to
enter the UK.- TTG advised on the 18th November.
"The unspecified income would fund 1,000 additional Border Force staff.
Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said the party would fund the staff with a charge for visitors from the US and 55 other countries with a visa waiver agreement with the UK"
I hope this will mean that we will not have to pay to go to American anymore- lets hope.
Labour plan to offer people in countries with a visa waiver system of fast-track permission to enter the UK would be charged about £10 per visit under the plans.
Labour estimates about 5.5 million tourists a year would have to pay the new charge.
But and there is always a But......................... British Air Transport Association chief executive Nathan Stower said carriers have “significant concerns” about the proposal.
“Visitors from countries like the USA and Australia already pay the highest air passenger tax in the world to fly to the UK - £71 from next April – contributing billions of pounds to the Treasury. Adding yet another charge will make the UK more uncompetitive in attracting tourists, businesses and inbound investment,” said Stower.-- Now for the Raspberry.................
You will notice that from this comment it does not inform you my savvy traveler what we pay in tax to get to the United States/ Australia or any of the other destinations mentioned. It is a little subjective dependent on if you have a stop over or not and which part of the counties you are traveling to. I checked one and I can say the TAX for US on the airfare was £125.00 per person so £10.00 visa is not that bad for visiting our lovely country. If all they pay is £71.00 tax to get to us. Oh yes that country did also have a visa attached to it on top of the £125.00 per person.
(To be fare I did check another European county and the Tax was £33.00 per person and can be as little as £10.00).
Proud to be part of the United Kingdom.
