Rocky Mountaineer –Part 2

We stopped in Kamloops for the night, there was not lots going on but they have a pleasant pub and the hotel had a casino if you fancied. It was great to come into the station though as they had 3 fully kited out Canadian Mounties on horseback welcoming us in, a great end to the first day.

Day 2 of the train trip: The best views for the day was on the right hand side. The spectacular views started from the start, with lush fresh fields, which turned into arid desert then mountainous snowy peaks.

The wildlife today was fantastic with Bald eagles, mountain goats & elk, still no bears though- It was a bit early in the season, but we were told there was a few bears seen the week before, the closest we got to bears was foot prints in the snow.

It was great to on board and the service was brilliant, the staff managed to smile the whole time, and considering there hours, I think they must have had there smiles tattooed on.

Things that you don’t get told:
-Don’t take binocular as you will get motion sickness trying to zoom in whilst the train is moving as well.
-They share a track with the freight trains, they also have to be a certain distance from them so there may be a delay in waiting for the freight trains to make their way through. (If you are delayed you are fed again).
-You get a little motion sickness (without the being sick) when you get off the train.
-The views on the upper part of the carriage are great was you see through most of the trees for better scenery of the lakes and mountains.
-There is only two/three power points to recharge your phones/ cameras so make sure you charge them over night, at the hotel.

The New Carriage
Travel Gossip- The Gold leaf carriages are under going a refurbishment, they take up to eight months per carriage and the first one has been completed.  If you book now there is no way to ensure you get the new carriage, it is pot luck.

What makes the new carriages so great???
The seats are more comfotable with heated seats, lumber support and foot rests, it’s like having your arm chair and car seat wrapped in one.

There is also a tray that is built into your own seat rather than the seat in front, this makes your space yours. You also have a connection point for your phones built into your seats so you do not have to wait for a power point to be available to charge your ipad/ camera ect. Here are some pictures of the New Carriages:
This experience was so amazing that it should be on everyone’s Bucket list.

Stay tuned for Banff and Lake Louise details………………………………….
